What’s your morning drink of choice? If you’re like me, then you without a doubt answered that question with one of my favorite words: coffee. That’s right, coffee is one of the most popular ways to get your day going, or keep it moving. From hot to iced, it seems that everyone has a favorite way of drinking it.

In case you haven’t heard, cold brew coffee is in right now. Making your coffee cold brew-style is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to get your iced coffee fix. So what exactly is cold brew coffee? Well, it sounds just like what it is: coffee that is brewed in cold water, overnight. Some people refer to it as “cold brew coffee” and others simply as “iced coffee.” It just so happens to be the perfect time of year to start ordering iced coffee at your favorite café. If you want to do it like I do, save some time and money by making a cold brew coffee at home in a French press. A French press is an inexpensive coffee maker (mine cost less than $10!) that makes some of the best coffee that I have ever had.

How to Make Iced Coffee

Step One: Gather your ingredients:

  • 4 cups room temperature water
  • 2/3 cups ground coffee (I used a dark roast)
  • milk and sugar (to taste)

(This recipe makes 4 cups of iced coffee and is perfect to prepare just before bed because your fridge will do all of the work overnight.)

To get that coffee shop-perfect taste, make sure you use filtered water.

Step Two: Pour the water into the French press first. Next, add the coffee on top of that.

Step Three: Give the coffee a good stir, and I mean a really good stir. I stirred this for 1 minute to ensure that the coffee grounds were mixing with the water correctly.

Step Four: Place the lid on top of the French press, leaving the plunger up, and place in the fridge for 6-8 hours. This recipe is great to make the night before because it’s ready for you in the morning or later in the day.

Step Five: After it’s done brewing, plunge the French press down to separate the coffee grounds and the water.

Step Six: Pour over ice, add milk or sugar to taste and enjoy!
